Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China announced the results of the 2023 Major Projects review. The major project titled Microbehavioral Research Assisting in the Design of Economic Policies, jointly declared by Southern University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Research Institute, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Peking University, and Renmin University of China (in order of sub-topics), has been granted funding. Among them, the sub-project Decision and Game Theory and Economic Policy, led by Professor  Lan Yao from the School of Economics at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, is one of the sub-topics of this major project.

The core content of the Decision and Game Theory and Economic Policy research is to explore the game characteristics of economic policy analysis based on the characteristics of the digital economy era, and to conduct theoretical analysis and experimental testing in conjunction with the assumption of bounded rationality from behavioral economics. The research team plans to explore fields such as network games and information design, while incorporating social preferences and limited willpower in individual decision-making into the analysis of economic policy. The emphasis is on designing and optimizing rules, mechanisms, and institutions that fully consider individual behavioral decision biases, providing unique and novel methods for analyzing and solving economic problems from a game-theoretic perspective.
