On November 1, 2023, the National Office for Philosophy and Social Science announced the completion status of the National Social Science Fund projects for October 2023. Professor Lin Cheng from the School of Economics and the Institute of Chinese Economic Thought Development at our university, who led the key project of the National Social Science Fund titled Research on the Status and Value of Traditional Chinese Economic Thought (Approval Number: 17AJL006), successfully passed the peer expert appraisal and was rated as excellent upon conclusion.
The completion of this project, which is over 700,000 words in length, comprehensively, multi-dimensionally, and from multiple perspectives, examines the status and modern value of traditional Chinese economic thought in the history of world economic thought development. The academic value is prominently reflected in three aspects:
Firstly, in terms of research perspective, it deeply reflects on the traditional Eurocentric view and is based on a global vision, focusing on holistic research, and examines the dynamic evolution of traditional Chinese economic thought in the process of historical development and interaction between China and other countries. Secondly, in terms of theoretical construction, it integrates interdisciplinary methods and uses a variety of research tools, constructing a theoretical analytical framework for in-depth understanding and systematic study of traditional Chinese economic thought through comprehensive comparisons and in-depth detailed analysis. Thirdly, in terms of research content, it adopts a method that unifies history and logic, and has formed many unique and persuasive insights in aspects such as the historical periods, brilliant achievements, basic characteristics, overseas dissemination, global influence, and modern value of traditional Chinese economic thought.
This project breaks through the limitations of existing literature, providing a reference system for objectively and reasonably evaluating the historical status and modern value of traditional Chinese economic thought. It helps to provide academic support for related research and will actively promote the continuous deepening of relevant studies.
