The program of Political Economy has developed rapidly since 2004 when SOE launched its all-dimensional reforms. With full support from SOE leadership, this program has made considerable progress in terms of academic research, faculty team building, talent training and international exchanges and communications. Currently with a top ranking domestically and growing international influence, the program has become a major base and one of the academic centers for national research and teaching in Political Economy. In the fall of 2010, SOE established the Department of Political Economy and initiated the system of Co-directors composed by two professors: one from overseas as is engaged by Prof. David M. Kotz, University of Massachusetts and the other from domestic China as is engaged by Prof. Yan Ma, SOE, SUFE. The establishment of Department of Political Economy provides both opportunities for the development of SOE and the program of Political Economy and offers a new platform for academic exchanges on political economy home and abroad.
On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, SOE held the 4th National Seminar on Mathematical Analysis of Modern Political Economy, with experts and scholars exchanging their viewpoints on Mathematical Marxist Economics.
