2008 US Mathematical Contest in Modeling has recently closed with SOE 2004 undergraduate of International Economics, Xu Bo, and his team members Deng Rufeng and Liu Yanwu winning the first place.
MCM, initiated in 1985 and co-sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and the US National Security Agency, is an annual international mathematical modeling contest for undergraduates to deal with practical problems in production and research. Presently, MCM result has been taken as one of the indicative indexes for mathematical teaching development. MCM attracts students from top universities in China, with demanding requirements on students’ solid mathematical knowledge base, good application ability in problem analyzing and solving, foreign language proficiency, English research paper writing skills, as well as teamwork spirit.
