Recently, the Shanghai Division Final of the 3rd National College Student Career Planning Competition, hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and co-organized by the Shanghai Student Affairs Center, Tongji University, East China Normal University and Shanghai Donghai Vocational and Technical College, was held at Shanghai Donghai Vocational and Technical College and Tongji University. Cheng Qinyan, a Master of Finance (Chief Economist Track) student from our school, won the Bronze Award in the Higher Education Postgraduate Group of the Employment Track in the Shanghai Final.
With the theme “Chase Youth Dreams Across the Nation; Navigate a Promising Career”, the competition serves as a classroom for career education, a platform connecting talent and demand, and a marketplace supporting graduate employment. Aligned closely with national competition standards, it sets three tracks: Employment, Growth and Teaching. Upholding the principle of “promoting learning, teaching and employment through competition”, it offers a high-level stage for teachers and students in Shanghai’s universities to demonstrate professional competence and clarify career paths. Since the launch of the competition, our school has attached great importance to it with systematic planning and extensive mobilization to guide students to define their career goals.
In his presentation for the postgraduate group, Cheng Qinyan outlined his career vision: “Empower the Intelligent-Driving Future, Uncover Value through Analysis, and Serve as a Capital Navigator for the Automobile Industry”. Leveraging his interdisciplinary background in engineering and finance, he targets the position of automotive industry research analyst. He aspires to connect industry with capital through professional expertise, facilitate high-quality industrial development and fulfill youth responsibility. He was awarded the Shanghai Bronze Award for his outstanding performance.
This honour reflects the fruitful outcomes of our school’s career planning education and industry-education integration. The school will further improve its career education system, boost learning and employment readiness via competitions, help students clarify development paths and enhance employability through practice, and cultivate high-calibre finance talents with global vision, solid expertise and innovative mindsets.
Student’s Testimonial
The career planning competition is a valuable journey for self-reflection, reviewing my past and mapping out the future. From the university preliminary round to the municipal final, counsellors and teachers from the Admissions and Career Office offered plenty of professional advice, ideas and constant support along the way.
As the core of the modern economy, finance bears the mission of effectively serving the real economy. It is not merely the “lifeblood” of industrial growth, but also a key engine that guides resource allocation, optimises industrial structure and fuels innovation and upgrading. As Shanghai is an international financial centre and SUFE a top finance university in China, SUFE students should shoulder responsibilities for building a powerful financial nation, abide by compliance rules, and contribute to channelling finance toward the real economy. Going forward, I will keep diving into sectors including automobiles, robotics and low-altitude economy, striving to draw the capital blueprint for industrial growth.
