On November 14–15, 2024, the 2024 Annual Exchange Meeting of the Special Project "Basic Theory and Empirical Evidence of China's Economic Development Laws," hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and organized by Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, was held in Shanghai. Liu Zuoyi, Deputy Director of the Department of Management Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Liu Yuanchun, President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Liu Yuanchun stated that China should not only forge its own path in economic development but also form an independent academic discourse system in theoretical construction, contributing Chinese wisdom to global economic governance. Looking ahead, he noted that the innovative development of China's economics requires strengthened dialogue and exchange with the international academic community to provide solid support for achieving high-quality development.
In his speech, Liu Zuoyi introduced the goals and positioning of the special project. He emphasized that the project's research should be carried out as organized research around limited objectives, and expressed the hope that project team members would maintain a rigorous academic attitude and scientific research methods, promoting high standards and high-quality development in academic research. The National Natural Science Foundation of China will also continue to strengthen process management of the special project.
At the meeting, project leaders from 15 institutions, including Fudan University and Tsinghua University, reported on the main research progress, phased achievements, and next-step plans of their respective projects. Expert advisors carefully listened to the project reports, engaged in in-depth and thorough exchanges with project team members regarding potential problems in project implementation, and put forward practical and feasible suggestions for the continued advancement of follow-up work.
Chen Zhongfei, Project Director of the Third Division of the Department of Management Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, chaired the opening ceremony. Experts from the academic advisory group and the secretariat group, members of various project teams, and staff from the Third Division of the Department of Management Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China attended the meeting.
