On September 20, the 2024 list of selected works for the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievements Library was publicly announced on the
website of the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences, with a total of 61 achievements nationwide selected. The list was open to the public from
September 20 to September 26, 2024.
"The Historical Status and Modern Value of Traditional Chinese Economic Thought," led by Professor Cheng Lin of the School of Economics, was
successfully selected.
Achievement Introduction
This achievement, totaling more than 800,000 words, comprehensively, multi-levelly, multi-perspectively, and three-dimensionally examines the historical
status and modern value of traditional Chinese economic thought in the development history of world economic thought. Its academic value is mainly
manifested in three aspects:
First, in terms of research vision, it is based on a global perspective, placing the dynamic evolution of traditional Chinese economic thought within the
process of historical development and intertwined interaction between China and foreign countries for examination, analyzing its deep core and basic spirit,
and clarifying its important status. At the same time, it adheres to the "two combinations," carrying out necessary modern transformation and interpretation
of it, so as to connect history with reality and tradition with modernity.
Second, in terms of theoretical construction, it comprehensively applies multiple research methods and constructs a theoretical analytical framework for
in-depth understanding and systematic study of traditional Chinese economic thought, including the evolution mechanism of traditional Chinese economic
thought, the four dimensions of its brilliant achievements (richness, uniqueness, innovativeness, and analytical character), the paths of its overseas
dissemination, and the methods of its inheritance and innovation.
Third, in terms of research content, it adopts the method of unifying history and logic, and has formed many original and relatively persuasive views on the
historical stages, brilliant achievements, historical limitations, basic characteristics, overseas dissemination, world influence, historical status, and modern
value of traditional Chinese economic thought. This achievement provides a reference framework for objectively and reasonably evaluating the historical
status and modern value of traditional Chinese economic thought, provides academic support for research on the inheritance and innovation of traditional
economic thought, the construction of an autonomous knowledge system for Chinese economics, and the promotion of exchanges and mutual learning
among civilizations, and will actively promote related research to continue moving toward greater depth.
The National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences is set up by the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, it is designed to launch landmark academic works that reflect the practical and theoretical innovations of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, represent the cutting-edge level of contemporary philosophy and social science research in China, and embody the highest academic standards of relevant disciplines.
The Library was established in 2010. Starting from 2019, its selection is held biennially in principle. One or two works are chosen from each discipline, and
the total number of selected publications is generally capped at about 60.
