Recently, the "Notice of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on Announcing the List of 2024 Shanghai Municipal-Level Key Courses Approved
for Higher Education Institutions" (Hu Jiao Wei Gao [2024] No. 38) was released.
The course "History of Chinese Economic Thought," led by Professor Wang Fang of the School of Economics, was approved as a 2024 Shanghai Municipal-
Level Key Course for higher education institutions.
Relying on the advantageous foundation and disciplinary characteristics of the history of economic thought, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics
has consistently offered the course "History of Chinese Economic Thought" to undergraduates since the 1960s. The teaching team of the course has
successively included Professor Hu Jichuang, founder of the discipline of the history of Chinese economic thought; Professor Tan Min, former president of
Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; and Zhao Xiaolei, a senior professor in the discipline of the history of economic thought, among others. At
present, the teaching team includes Professor Cheng Lin and Professor Wang Fang, leaders of the discipline, and young and middle-aged teaching
backbone members Associate Researcher Chen Xudong, Associate Professor Liu Ningshuang, and Associate Professor Yue Xiangyu. The course leader and
members of the teaching team have successively won Shanghai municipal-level and university-level teaching achievement awards, participated in the
development of Shanghai first-class courses and key course projects, and accumulated rich experience in teaching and course development.
The course has the interdisciplinary characteristic advantage of combining economics and history. Based on the "two combinations," it improves the
curriculum system of "History of Chinese Economic Thought," deepens students' understanding of China's national conditions, China's economic
development, and the relationship between the history of Chinese economic thought and Chinese social and economic history, and helps students
establish theoretical confidence and cultural confidence. It cultivates students' ability to use the theories and methods of Marxist economics and modern
economics to analyze, understand, and summarize the brilliant achievements of Chinese economic thought, naturally integrates ideological and political
elements of the course, such as national sentiment and fine traditional Chinese culture, into the course teaching process, effectively implements the trinity
teaching objectives of value guidance, ability cultivation, and knowledge exploration, and achieves the organic unity of ideological and political education
and knowledge system education.
At the same time, the teaching team actively optimizes and adjusts the teaching content and carries out innovative exploration in teaching formats. By
introducing diversified teaching resources and emphasizing the use of rich historical materials, including pictures, videos, and historical document displays,
it allows students to intuitively experience and feel the depth of history. It focuses on using a large number of case studies from an international comparative
perspective to explain to students many universal and original insights in the history of economic thought that were once ahead of the world. It introduces
on-site teaching in museums to gradually inspire students to objectively and accurately understand the historical status and modern value of traditional
Chinese economic thought.
