According to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Discipline Ranking by Clarivate Analytics published on May 9, 2019 for the period January 1, 2010 to February 28, 2019, Economics&Business in SUFE have made the extraordinary breakthrough of ranking among the world’s Top 1% disciplines for the first time. SUFE is the only non-comprehensive university among the domestic universities and institutions listed in this category, which include Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, etc. Social Science(General) in SUFE also ranked among the world Top 1% disciplines for the first time. The ranking results mark major accomplishments by SUFE in constructing first-class disciplines and updating management strategies.

As one of the schools that made crucial contributions to the latest ESI ranking result, SOE has been adopting a pioneering strategy since 2005 to attract and retain overseas high-level talents in economics in the pursuit of long-term academic excellence and world-class discipline. Facilitated by the Economics Innovative Platform (listed in the 985 Innovative Platforms for Key Disciplines Project), the Key Laboratory of Mathematical Economics, Ministry of Education, the Theoretical Economics Gaofeng II Discipline Innovation Project and the Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation, Ministry of Education, SOE made many efforts to guide and support its faculty members to be rooted in China and conduct original research that would exert international influence, make a stronger voice in the international academic community and tell China’s economic stories to the international community. These efforts have made remarkable achievements.
The latest Tilburg University Economics Ranking based on high quality research publications from 2009 to 2018 in 35 respected economics journals placed the discipline of economics of SUFE 1st in China, 2nd in Asia and 69th worldwide. Particularly, the ranking of the discipline jumped to 35th place in the world in 2018. In the past year, 3 papers by SOE faculty were accepted or conditionally accepted by the top 5 economics journals and 15 published or accepted by the top journals in economics sub-fields.

Since the economics education reform in 2004, the SOE faculty have published a large number of original high quality papers in respected international journals. According to incomplete statistics, for the period January 1, 2019 to February 28, 2019, 244 papers have been published by SOE faculty in the Tier-3 and above ranges in the SUFE-approved international journal list. Among them, 11 papers are in the top five international economics journals, 83 in the top journals in economics sub-fields (referring to the Tier-1 journals in the SUFE-approved international journal list), 68 in the Tier-2 journals and 92 in the Tier-3 journals.
