Date:2009-05-13

Professor Zhu Ronglin, Researcher of the Development Research Center of the State Council (former Shanghai Institute Director) and a member of NDRC Regional Planning Expert Advisory Team came to SOE at 7:00 p.m. on April 16, 2008 and delivered a speech titled “Right Thinking—Forerunner of Academic Research” at Room 701. Dr. Zhong Hongjun, Assistant to the Dean of SOE, presided over the speech attended by plenty of faculty members and students.

Centering on the “essential and dynamic role of thinking”, Prof. Zhu talked about the intellectual allocation of China and analyzed the problems arisen in the economic reform in view of the features and development of US as well as global economy. He holds that China still has a long way to go compared with western countries in material resource allocation and thus we should lay stress on human resource development for progress. Besides, the thinking mode of the Chinese used to be confined by authority, tradition, doctrine and the mass, which should be recognized and rectified by education. In terms of China’s economy, Prof. Zhu analyzed the issues concerning public power structure, social structure and economic stability, reaching the conclusion that the development of China should be centered on government management restructuring, improvement of basic economic system as well as people’s livelihood.

Prof. Zhu employed concrete examples and personal experiences in his analysis, making the abstract theories vivid and more convincing. The lecture came to an end with Prof. Zhu’s communication with students over topics such as “higher education reform”, “world food issues” and “China’s migrant worker issues”.
